I was surprised at first when I found out the white bread was actually a mouse, but that removable bread costume is just too cute. Sure, in a world full of animals, a 'talking bread' does seem like an oddball, but you can't argue with that. The old man’s teaching style is lovely—he doesn’t do everything for Pan Dorobou, but he watches over them and catches them when they’re about to fall. He’s such a gentle teacher. Though, for someone who acts so much like a 'master,' his own bread is way too salty and kind of gross. It’s kinda funny. It’s a bit sad that Pan Dorobou keeps getting called by their thief name even after turning over a new leaf, but it feels real. Names don’t change overnight, after all. The old man’s words, "You’ve gone from bread thief to baker," capture everything special about Pan Dorobou making bread on their own for the first time. It made me tear up just watching. It was such a happy ending, almost like a finale. I wonder if the title will change to 'Pan Dorobou No Longer Steals'? It leaves me with a tiny sense of loss.
