In episode 17, "Gathering Heroes," the long-awaited audience with the 13 Crowned Kings finally happens, and time flies by! Learning that the three candidates for the next Demon King are actually their grandchildren really drives home the weight of their bloodline and the breath of a new era. Henri and Amu's reactions are fun too, especially Amu, who shows off her reliable realist side by calmly seeing through her son's true nature. The battles in the academy floating above the underground magma are tense because losing on merit means real regret, and it's a relief to have the easily-bored Lazzberry around to keep things interesting. The anime is catching up to the manga's wild plot twists with timely pacing, and I'm looking forward to seeing how things develop with the new rivals next.
