The android goes wild, stretching past its three rules, bringing that deep, serious vibe from the '80s OVA!
This episode is tightly packed with connections to Innocence, so dense that you could fit it all into 20 minutes even without押井's direction. The line about human rights getting diluted as the population grows sounds just as relevant now as it did 30-40 years ago. I also love the comical gesture of flipping off the robot, and the Major's light, breezy charm feels very true to the original series. However, I did notice the pacing was a bit off, and the classic SF storytelling might have made the ending feel a bit too abrupt. I totally get why people want to watch it alongside the movie; the serious, heartfelt epilogue really hits home.
