Isshin’s semi-Hollow form is such a natural progression that it could easily have happened in the manga, yet it still manages to break my tear ducts. Orihime’s beautiful charge forward, declaring “I’ll accept everything,” combined with the ending theme, makes this episode a guaranteed tear-jerker. Rukia’s appearance and the arrival of the Royal Guard felt fresh, as if Tsukishima had inserted them into our memories. The smoke animation is stunning, and the anime-original crying scenes are incredibly moving, perfectly tugging at the hearts of us Heisei-era otaku. I can’t wait for the next episode’s new developments, but I’ll be keeping my eyes glued to the screen to see how Orihime’s power of acceptance resonates.
