Kanao’s ‘dead eyes’ expression hits you right in the feels. When you find out she’s been holding onto that coin from Kanae, who abused her without even giving her a proper name, it’s enough to bring tears to your eyes. Shinobu knows exactly how to handle them: goading Inosuke while offering gentle touches and encouragement to Zenitsu. It’s funny how well she understands their personalities, but her sharp tongue adds such a nice flavor. Thinking about how she might be thinking of Kanae makes it feel a little bittersweet. Tetsukabura’s ‘No way! That guy with the sword? With stones? No way!’ is absolutely hilarious. Seeing a normally sensible craftsman lose his cool and curse like a sailor is surprisingly refreshing, and knowing it was mostly improvised on the spot just makes it even funnier. Also, isn’t it amazing that all three Kuchou sisters are voiced by Pretty Cure voice actresses? Shinobu as Felice, Kanao as Lillian, and Kanae as Finale—lining them up like that gives off such a sparkling vibe. Next episode is the ‘New Mission,’ but with the Mugen Train arc creeping closer, I’m excited yet a little nervous. I can’t stop worrying about Rengoku!
