Sanma produced this anime adaptation of Kana Nishio's original work, and I was surprised by Shinobu Otake's voice as Nku-ko-chan—it reminded me of Totoro! I just figured it’s the kind of voice you can only get after living with Sanma for years. I kept wondering what her life was like while raising Kikurin and dating a shady guy. Still, Nku-ko-chan's words, "I wasn't born out of love" and "We're family," really hit home. She says she’s 151cm and 67.4kg, but that physique makes you want to yell, "You look like you weigh 90kg!" And Kikurin getting shut down by sweet potatoes was pretty funny. The girls' peer pressure and factional squabbles made them seem a bit childish, but I guess that’s just how it is in a fishing port town. I really liked how Nku-ko-chan’s final expression made you think, "Yeah, she really is a mom."
